Learning doesn't have to look the same for everyone.
I provide one-to-one academic tutoring and mentoring for students who may need a more individualised approach to learning.
My support combines academic knowledge with an understanding of the emotional, organisational and practical challenges that can make education difficult to navigate.
Whether a student needs help understanding a subject, preparing for exams, getting organised, managing deadlines or simply finding a way to approach their studies that works for them, sessions are tailored around the individual student.

Academic mentoring & study support
Academic mentoring is available across subjects and focuses on how a student approaches their learning, rather than teaching the content of a particular subject.
This can include:
-
Planning and organising coursework and assignments
-
Breaking larger tasks into manageable steps
-
Revision planning and exam preparation
-
Time management and deadlines
-
Study skills and effective learning strategies
-
Task initiation and getting started
-
Managing workload
-
Building confidence and independence
-
Developing strategies around anxiety and overwhelm
-
Creating approaches to learning that work with the student's individual needs
A different approach to tutoring
There isn't one right way to learn.
Students can have the knowledge and ability to succeed while still finding aspects of education incredibly difficult.
My approach is neurodivergent-affirming, flexible and student-centred. Rather than expecting every student to fit the same model of learning, I work with them to understand their strengths, challenges and preferences and develop strategies that are realistic and sustainable for them.
I don't believe in simply adding more pressure when a student is already struggling.
The aim is to help them develop confidence, skills and greater independence, while making their academic workload feel more manageable.
About me
I'm Jen, an HCPC Registered Art Psychotherapist, Specialist University Mentor, creative facilitator and artist.
I have experience supporting students within higher education, as well as working with children and young people across educational, therapeutic and community settings.
My professional background means I bring an understanding of both learning and wellbeing to my work. I also have personal experience of navigating education alongside neurodivergence as a parent.
I understand that sometimes the barrier isn't a lack of ability — it's finding the right way into the work.
Who is this for?
My tutoring and mentoring may be particularly helpful for students who:
✓ Are neurodivergent
✓ Experience anxiety around education or exams
✓ Become overwhelmed by workload or deadlines
✓ Struggle with organisation or time management
✓ Find it difficult to get started on tasks
✓ Have lost confidence in their academic ability
✓ Need a more flexible or individualised approach
✓ Would benefit from one-to-one support
Sessions are suitable for secondary school, sixth form and university students, depending on the type of support required.
In person 1:1 and online sessions
Sessions are delivered in person, at your home, as I understand how difficult it can be for anxious young people to be in a new place with a new person, and also online, making support accessible from home and allowing students to work within a familiar environment.
Individual sessions are tailored to the student's needs and goals.
Interested in finding out more?
You don't need to know exactly what support your young person needs before getting in touch.
We can have an informal conversation about where they're currently struggling, what they're hoping to achieve and whether my support would be a good fit.
